AN ex-convict was shot to death by an unidentified person on board a motorcycle in the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) in Barangay Tanke, Talisay City yesterday morning.
Personnel of the Talisay City Police identified the fatalitiy as Edwin Sedaco Castañares, who was a resident of Sitio Laray, Barangay San Roque, in the same city.
Based on their initial investigation, police said Castañares was jogging in CSCR together with his live-in partner at 6 a.m. when he was suddenly approached by the unidentified assailant, who was on a motorcycle.
The unidentified assailant then reportedly pulled out a pistol and shot Castañares several times before fleeing.
Emergency rescue units from Talisay arrived in the area to assist Castañares but the victim died on the spot.
Castañares’ body is currently at the St. Peter Funeral Homes in Cebu City.
Parole
Police believed that the murder may have been related to Castañares’ previous criminal record.
Castañares was reportedly released from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City last year after getting a parole for two counts of theft and homicide.
Police are still trying to identify the culprit behind Castañares’ death. (JKV)
