A POLICE trainee and an elderly man died in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental over the weekend.
In La Carlota City, Police Officer 1 Rowell Baluyot, 25, of Barangay La Granja, a trainee of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas, was ran over by a sugarcane truck along the national highway of Barangay La Granja around 9:20 p.m. on Friday.
Investigation showed that Baluyot, who was driving a motorcycle on his way home, sideswiped another motorcycle driven by Erwin Galon, 27, of Barangay Haguimit.
Baluyot fell towards the opposite lane and was ran over by the truck driven by Romulo Pedro, 49, of Barangay Masulog, La Castellana town.
Baluyot died before reaching a hospital.
Galon, whose motorcycle had no plate number and lights, escaped.
Both Galon and Pedro were arrested in a followup operation.
Meanwhile, an elderly man died while another was injured after their motorcycle collided with a Ceres Liner bus along Loreto Bridge in Barangay San Jose, Binalbagan town around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The fatality was identified as Johnny Sarsona Jr., 60, while the wounded, as Regie Orquiales, 27, both of Himamaylan City.
Police records showed the bus driven by Randy Medel, 50, of Kabankalan City was tailing the motorcycle driven by Orquiales.
Orquiales lost control of the motorcycle and fell on the road.
Sarsona was thrown away and ran over by the bus. He died on the spot.
Orquiales was brought to a hospital in Bacolod City.
