Pampanga Mayors League prexy optimistic on Megalopolis plan

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Lubao Mayor and Pampanga Mayors League (PML) President Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab over the weekend said she is optimistic and positive that the Pampanga Megalopolis plan is doable in a long-term development period.

“Naniwala po ako na handa na ang ating probinsya. Alam ko pong kakayanin natin,” she said as she affirmed that the comprehensive master plan, drafted by renowned architect and urban planner Felino Falafox, will be backed and fully supported by local government leaders.

The PML head then noted that she believes that the proposal will serve as a primary guide for stakeholders, local government units, the business sector, and partners in developing the province.

“We are optimistic that through this master plan, we can achieve sustained growth. This will be our basis for urban planning for the province. It will help us in developing and constructing much-needed thoroughfares and infrastructures aligned with Pampanga’s vision of becoming a growing province and a province of opportunity for all,” she shared.

“With the implementation of this big development, we can invite more investors. And of course, with more investments here in the countryside, hindi na kailangan pumunta ng mga Kapampangan sa Maynila para magtrabaho,” she added.

Moreover, Pineda-Cayabyab highlighted that careful planning as well as proper implementation are necessary for the success of the project.

“Sabi nga po nila, tayo ang kasunod ng Metro Manila na uusbong at lalaking probinsya. Ngunit ayaw po nating matulad sa Maynila na hindi naplano kung ano ang dapat na bigyan ng pansin. Kaya naman po ang ating provincial government, sa tulong ng PML, ay magtutulong-tulong para maisakatuparan at maging realidad ang Pampanga Megalopolis plan,” she said.

The Pampanga Megalopolis plan, initiated in 2016 by Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Governor Lilia Pineda along with the private sector led by the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. was formulated to address the major issues and challenges, as well as optimize the potential of the province as an urban growth center that will become a counter magnet to the Manila Megalopolis.
