Body seeks active role in promoting culture, values in CV

EFFORTS to promote Philippine culture and values in Central Visayas will get a boost with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in collaboration with the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7.

“NCCA is the lead agency (on these matters) that’s why we want to be involved in the RDC... The NCCA’s concern is how to make these targets a reality,” said NCCA Focal Person for RDC Concerns Adelina Suemith, who also lauded RDC 7 for being aggressive in its support for the creative industry.

Suemith met with RDC 7 Chairman Kenneth Cobonpue, and National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 7 officials led by Regional Director Efren Carreon to discuss what initiatives the NCCA could undertake in Central Visayas.

These projects would be based on strategies laid out in the Central Visayas Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2017-2022, specifically on promoting Philippine culture and values.

Initial activities to be pursued would be the membership of the NCCA in the RDC, and an orientation and planning workshop on culture and values among concerned agencies and local government units in the region.

Cobonpue, a world renowned furniture designer, earlier said that the Philippine Creative Economy Council is pushing to make the Philippines among the top five creative economies in the world by 2030 in terms of size and value of the creative industries, as well as the competitiveness/attractiveness of creative talent pool.
