Former whistleblower vows to continue monitoring PCSO funds

PHILIPPINE Charity Sweepstakes (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam said she respects President Rodrigo Duterte's statement that there was nothing wrong with the supposed lavish party at the PCSO, but she also said that the President cracks jokes a lot of time.

"Respetado ko po kung anong statement ng ating mahal na pangulo yesterday but I will continue to be a fiscalizer. Babantayan ko po ang bawat kilos ng charity funds," Cam said during the House committee on good government on Tuesday, February 13.

Cam, however, said "the President cracks jokes a lot of time."

She recounted that in one event in Albay, the President told her that PCSO general manager Alexander Balutan was looking for her and that they should reconcile.

She said when she asked the President if what he said was true, the President, as quoted by Cam said "hindi, just do your job."

In a speech in Cebu on Monday, Duterte said there's nothing wrong with the supposed anomalous PCSO party for as long as its funds will benefit the people.

Cam was the one who disclosed before the public the alleged P10 million spent for the Christmas party at the PCSO last December.

Cam said the President has a marching order to her which she cannot relay to anyone.

"He has a marching order to me which I cannot relay to anybody but you can see my body language why I'm doing this," she said.

She said her actions were prompted by the current situation of the poor in the country, the PCSO charity funds should go to these people, she said.

Cam said she already asked Secretary Christopher "Bong" Go, special assistant to the President, for a brief meeting with the President.

After this, Cam broke down.

"Nilagay ko ang buhay ko dito (I put my life on the line) to stop corruption. 'Yun ang advocacy ng ating pangulo (That is the advocacy of the President)," she said.

"Sabi niya (He said), in just a wink of corruption, tatanggalin ko (he would remove me). I have proven a lot at di lang ito. Marami pa kong nasa kamay," she added.

She further said, "even a drug lord in the province of Iloilo was given (an STL) franchise by GM Balutan."

"Lalaban ako, your honors. Hanggang kailan? Sa akin na lang po yun because I have the feeling of the poorest of the poor (I will fight, your honors. Until when? I'd rather keep that to myself)," she added.

Balutan has repeatedly denied Cam's allegations. He said the former jueteng bagman just wants to steal his position. Cam refuted the said accusation. (SunStar Philippines)
