Youngsters beat veterans in 2nd Crusaders Invitational Cup

THE Glorious Hope United FC youngsters Sunday held to their ground from start to finish to defeat the veteran laden Magis FC and capture the 2nd Crusader Invitational Cup Football tournament at the Westridge Sports Park.

It was a see saw battle for both teams, as they failed to score a winning goal in the regulation and in the extra time to arrange a winner take all penalty shootout.

One of the few veterans of GHUFC Aliver Aguaviva sealed their championship win when he scored the winning penalty after a miss by veteran and top local coach Don Derequito.

Aldren Daga-ang, Juarlito Daga-ang, Aljocbert Mahilum and Kirk Eman See scored their own penalties for GHUFC while Wing del Riarte, Jerney Miaco, former Manila Meralco player Jean Delos Reyes and Mike Tidor scored the goals for Magis.

Other members of GHUFC are Choco Abian, Chev Miguel Magdale, Sasha Rara, Hynes Earl Gualin, Aian Mark /Garcia, Aljocbert Mahilum, and Kim Warren Subrado.

Completing them are subs Jerome Dela Peña, Jefferson Cabrillos, John Carl Romero, Steve Norman Eboñia, John Patrick Quintos, Rojie Clemeña, Stephen Bajuyo, Ed Mark Tumbaga, Godfrey Fulminar, Abelardo Antonio III, Philip Cesar Palamine, Marc Ravalo, Darryl Espancho. Andren Daga-ang was named MVP.

Higala FC women’s team won the women’s category with Chantal Van Ommeren winning the MVP title. The Dogs and Friends team also won the 2 vs 2 Crusaders’ Football Challenge beating Hillsiders, 6-4.

The Xavier University Men’s Varsity team was also awarded with their championship trophy and medals for winning the 7th CEAP Mindanao Games title in Tagum recently. Tournament organizer and XU coach Ivan Caiña presented them the trophies and medals.

GHUFC was started by Pastor Rey Simene of Glorious Hope United Fellowship Center Inc. and former Magis FC players. The club was established to help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through the beautiful game according to their team captain Aliver Aguaviva.
