Sanchez: A brother

I NEVER really knew Ian de Ramos. Maybe I should have and I made a friend request to make him once in Facebook.

Yes, sure when I was active in the organic farming movement, I and then Organic na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association (Onopra) president Ramon “Chinchin” Uy Jr. “invaded” his office to interview Miss Organic Panaad candidates. Ian is a fixture during the annual Negros Island Organic Farming Festival.

Panaad is a tourism draw. Together with other provincial officials, Ian helped the province bagged the Hall of Fame Award for winning the Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit for the three consecutive years.

Aside from common friends in the organic farming advocates, I was surprised that we had common friends among the Catholic charismatic The Light of Jesus Family community. He often went there, accompanied by Feaster servant Bro Normel.

In fact, Chinchin and his wife Francine would often meet at the SMX for the Catholic religious service. Talk about reunions of the body and soul.
I often see the two attend the Thursday two-hour praise and worship.

Obviously, Ian was seeking a deeper relationship with the Father Abba.

Ian reminds me of Pope Francis’s statement: “If a person is gay and seeks out the Lord and is willing, who am I to judge that person?”

The pontiff paraphrased the Catechism of the Catholic Church where it says that “these people should be treated with delicacy and not be marginalized.”

Or of Andy Warhol, the gay American painter. Andy went to church every Sunday. After a hectic Saturday night of carousing with all his “fabulous” friends, this devout Catholic would go to church – usually with his mother – the next morning. Often he went straight from party to church.

Farewell, my brother-in-Christ. I will get to know you better when I myself go to claim my room from the Father. Until then, I salute here for your accomplishments in Negros Occidental.
