5,500 politicians in Negros Oriental join PDP-Laban

MORE than 5,000 political leaders from Negros Oriental formerly affiliated with the Liberal Party switched to the ruling party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), on Thursday, February 15.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, PDP-Laban secretary general, officiated the oath-taking of an estimated 5,500 politicians led by 17 mayors and vice mayors from the 19 municipalities and six cities of the province.

Alvarez was accompanied by several lawmakers, including Mindoro Oriental Representative Reynaldo Umali, Maguindanao Representative Sajid Mangudadato, Negros Occidental Representative Alfredo Benitez, and Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr., the president of PDP provincial council of Negros Oriental.

During the mass oath-taking held at the municipality of Bacong, Alvarez urged the politicians to support the PDP-Laban's efforts to change the form of government from unitary to federalism.

Alvarez said the federal setup of government will empower the provinces and regions. (SunStar Philippines)
