WAO volunteers take the lead for cleaner cities

IN A bid to live in a cleaner city, youth workers from international volunteer service World as One (WAO) organized a clean-up drive on Saturday, February 11, 2018.

Around 41 Filipino volunteers from Davao City, who were mostly employed at a Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), were joined by nine Korean volunteers along with their family and neighbors in collecting cans, plastic bottles, and other trash loitered along Quimpo Boulevard, this city.

The group, which is founded by the World Mission Society of Church of God, finished cleaning a 1.8 kilometer stretch by the road in the boulevard.

They collected around one ton of garbage consisting cans, bottles.

Volunteer Jan Ray Bacamante, 21 who works for a Teleperformance said that cleaning around his workplace with his co-workers is a delightful experience.

“I feel a higher sense of belonging and I found myself appreciating my work even more,” Bacamante said.

25 year-old VXI employee Algren Himongala said that he never thought about cleaning around his workplace before, but WAO’s clean -up activity gave him a good opportunity to think more about his workplace and the society he belongs in.

Barangay Bucana Captain Rolando Trajera also expressed appreciation to the volunteers for their activity.

“I really appreciate all members of the World Mission Society Church of God for helping us maintain the cleanliness of our barangay,” he said.

On the same day, around 120 volunteers centering on Philippine and Korean WAO members had clean-up movement in Sitio Panabang, Cebu City.

WAO members have been conducting various kinds of activities in 33 cities in 18 countries on January and February to practice consideration, service, and sacrifice as well as share the essential value of life such as positivity, hope and happiness with more people in the world.

WAO has members in 175 countries in the world to take care of neighbors and society and protect the environment with passion and joy of youth.

Around 210 Korean working youth members who belong to the Church of God were sent to many other countries in the world; India, U.S., Peru, Brazil, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa and so on.

They are conducting various kinds of volunteer service activities such as street clean up, environmental campaign, donation for helping neighbors in need.

The church has an estimated 1500 members in Davao City today.
