With awards, services, Cebu City prepares to mark 81st

THE Cebu City Government will spend around P1.5 million for the City’s 81st Charter Day celebration next week.

The bulk of the amount will cover expenses in the City’s Serbisyong Sugbuanon program.

During the event, City Hall will extend frontline services such as medical consultations; supplemental feeding; assistance for farmers, senior citizens, and persons with disability; and a showcase of technical-vocational skills training.

It will be held at the Plaza Sugbo on Feb. 23.

Around P256,000, on the other hand, will pay for the City’s holding of a short program in the morning of Feb. 24 and the tokens of the outstanding institutions and individuals who have contributed to the city’s growth.

The testimonial dinner and awarding ceremony will be held in the Waterfront Hotel and Casino on Feb. 24.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu, Bryner Diaz, officer-in-charge of the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, said some P85,000 will be allocated for the food of the VIPs and guests during the morning activity, while around P171,000 will pay for the plaques of the awardees.

The budget for the entire activity, however, is just a rough estimate.

In a separate phone interview, Cathy Iso, secretary to the mayor said the budget allocation was based on the events for the weeklong celebration.

Awardees

“It’s just a rough estimate for all activities, but more or less the same with last year’s budget of P1.5 million since everything’s the same and there are no changes in the activities,” she said.

For the outstanding individuals, there are four awardees.

They are 2017 Southeast Asian Games marathon gold medalist Mary Joy Tabal, film director Remton Zuasola, radiologist Dr. Warfe Engracia, and theater and film actress Chai Fonacier.

For the outstanding institutions, there are two awardees, Mabolo Elementary School and Julie’s Bakeshop.

There are also two posthumous awardees: Cebuano composer Vicente Rubi and Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga founder Grand Master Choa Kok Sui. (RTF)
