1st gov't-initiated convention for communicators kicks off

AROUND 1,500 participants are expected at today's start of the National Information Convention 2018 at the SMX Convention Center SM Lanang Premier, the first ever such convention initiated by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) of the Office of the President.

The convention, which runs until February 21, gathers national and local government information officers, national and local private media, digital media groups, non-government organizations and civil society organizations, academe, communication students, and information, communications and technology partners, the Philippine Information Agency-Davao said.

The PIA-Davao is serving as the secretariat of the convention.

The participants are expected to have a better appreciation and understanding of government programs and mechanisms so that they can better participate in for nation-building and development, acquire insights on best practices in public advocacy and social mobilization, and improve public-private partnership in development communication.

The convention brings in experts in the communication field, both government and non-government, digital and traditional. (SAE)
