Warden: No special treatment for Galua

A TOP jail official over the weekend assured that architect Rey Galua, the prime person of interest in the Rotoras murder case, will not receive special treatment at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail in Barangay Lumbia.

City jail warden Superintendent Kenny Ronquillo said whoever renders special treatment on Galua will have to answer before him.

He said once Galua gets out from the infirmary, he will be detained in a prison cell intended for high profile inmates for safety purposes.

"Walay special treatment. Kutob lang sa makaya nato ma-extend nga tabang niya uban sa mga nasa infirmary. Kung naa man mubuhat manubag jud og kaso sa akoa," Ronquillo said.

(No special treatment. We can only extend as much assistance the same way we give others in the infirmary. If someone tries to give (special treatment) then they’ll be answerable to me)

Galua was confined inside the detention facility's health infirmary because of his heart condition and other medical needs.

His discharge from the infirmary will depend upon the result of his medical condition and recommendation of the health infirmary.

Jail officers brought Galua out from the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) to the city jail last Tuesday, February 13, by virtue of a doctor's discharge order.

Ronquillo said the only authority they follow is the judge and the doctor's final report and discharge order. He said the discharge of Galua from NMMC does not need a court order.

"There is no need for court order yung discharge niya sa hospital kundi yung doctor's final prognosis and discharge," Ronquillo said.

"There is no legal impediment on us when it comes to his safety and security. And the security also of our personnel and the hospital considering that he is considered a high profile detainee," he added.

Authorities arrested Galua for illegal possession of guns and explosives early last month.

The police considered him as the primary 'Person of interest' in the killing of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) president Dr. Ricardo Rotoras, last December 2.

However, investigators have yet to provide proof and establish his involvement in the killing.
