1,200 participants join biz, tourism confab

AT LEAST 1,200 stakeholders, mainly students and administrators, from the fields of business and tourism in the country are attending a creative talk conference at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City today.

Other participants include representatives from hospitality and restaurant management, technology, education, humanities and arts sectors, local government units, and private sector and business organizations.

Dubbed “#7NEWJUANDERS2018: The Seven New and Enterprising Ways of Growing Philippine Tourism Awareness and Local Economies 2018,” the one-day activity aims to showcase innovative and “globally” competitive ways on how to diversify, build, and sustain local industry economies across the region.

The organizers, in a briefer, said #7NEWJUANDERS2018 is a program concept for the youth created to celebrate Filipino ingenuity, innovation, and inspiration through seven new and enterprising ways.

These ways are initiated and sustained by seven outstanding “Juanders” who continuously challenge and positively impact their respective industry sectors.

They are Diane Eustaquio, executive director of IdeaSpace Foundation, who will talk on startup revolution; Plus63 Design Company founder Dan Matutina, concept of redesigning thinking; Altum founder Carlo Delantar, sustainable design; and restaurateur-chef Margarita Fores, culinary reinvention.

The three other “Juanders” are Cropital founder Ruel Amparo, who will talk on financial technology; Junjun Fetizanan of Futuristic Aviation and Maritime Enterprise Inc., seal safety; and FrontLearners founder Elaine de Velez, education innovation.

Now on its third year, #7NEWJUANDERS2018 also aims to expose participants to various social innovations created by young and seasoned Filipinos that continuously and creatively help increase tourism awareness, build local tourism economies, and transform respective industries.

Initiating the activity are the Tourism Educators and Movers Philippines- Western Visayas and The Dream Project PH in partnership with the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, Negros Occidental Tourism Division, 034 Creatives, and Association of Tourism Officers of Negros Occidental.

Through the conference, they aim to create new references and platforms on how to improve current programs and interventions geared towards inclusive and sustainable tourism.

This is also geared towards challenging the Filipino youth and various stakeholders to actively take part in building and transforming the Philippines through ingenuity and innovation, the organizers added.
