Regine Velasquez, Ssssuper Ka!

Anong kaibahan ng The Clash sa ibang singing competitions?

Ang The Clash hindi siya parang through elimination lang or ide-defend mo yung title mo. Hindi siya ganoon. Although meron ding component na ganoon, pero ang mas exciting for me yung may one-on-one, pipili ka ng kung sino yung sa tingin mo e kaya mo. If you wanna challenge yourself, you may pick the best contender.

Yes, it’s not a franchise. I don’t even think there’s a show na ganito na para siyang pinagbo-boksing. This is open to all Filipinos, amateur and professional, 16 years old and above. So, kahit 100 years old ka na kung kaya pa ng powers mo, puwede ka dito.

Ilan ang kukunin ninyong contestants?

We will choose 60 muna. So, kalahati agad yung mawawala. And those winners will compete with each other.

What is your time slot?

Hindi pa namin ma-confirm yung time slot but I know it’s twice a week. I will have a co-host but hindi ko pa rin alam kung sino.

Do you have auditions in other places?

After Cebu, we will also go to Davao, Baguio and Metro Manila. Actually, we’ve been auditioning for a year now, very quiet lang. Ito pa yung pinaka-public audition talaga but we’ve been scouting since last year. Palagi namang una ang Cebu kasi maraming magagaling dito.

What are the prizes?

Ngayon malalaki na but I’m not at liberty yet to say kung ano yung prizes but most probably, P1 million cash prize.

Who will be the judges?

Sa screening process, we will have Vehnee Saturno, Direk Bert de Leon and Jay Durias of South Border. For the main competition, we have AiAi delas Alas, Christian Bautista and Lani Misalucha.

Will there be a live accompaniment?

Of course, our musical director is Raul Mitra. It will be hosted by me and it’s going to be directed by Louie Ignacio.

Anong hinahanap ng The Clash para maging country’s next solo singing superstar?

I’ve noticed the new generation kind of music now is different from, like 5 years ago. Ganoon kabilis yung naging change. Five years ago, everyone knows making birit, but now parang kumukunti na yun. We want to have good singing naman. I think, importante rin ang presence mo sa stage, the vocal quality and how you perform. Hopefully, that person can also crossover to acting. Multi-media na kasi ang labanan ngayon. Hindi lang naman sa pagkanta lang.

Aside from The Clash, any other project?

I just released an album last October. I’m supposed to promote it this year.

How long does The Clash run?

The show will run for one hour. For one season muna that is 14 weeks. Hopefully, everyone will like it and we’ll continue doing it. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting concept.
