Maartext: National Arts Month fest

THE University of San Carlos Cebuano Studies Center (USC CSC)will hold various activities celebrating Cebuano arts and culture in Maartext: National Arts Month Celebration 2018.

It has been organized with the sponsorship of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and in cooperation with Robinsons Galleria Cebu, Mga Anak sa Dagang (MAD) and InOtherWords Inc. (IOW).

Maartext: National Arts Month Celebration 2018, a project of the National Committee on the Literary Arts, is an interdisciplinary arts festival aimed at promoting, showcasing and developing the intersections of the literary with the other arts (i.e. music, dance, drama, film, architecture, visual arts) in the different regions of the Philippines.

The celebration addresses the need to promote, preserve, and enrich the artistic heritage and to support artistic endeavors, especially the youth, from the vantage point of the literary arts in its different regional languages alongside the allied arts.

Targeted not only to artists but to the youth, Maartext hopes to provide students with a multitude of options for expressing and communicating their ideas and learning to think about problems from a broad range of perspectives.

“Involvement in the arts invites students to try new things, manage risk and cultivate greater passion in specific art forms that interest them,” according to Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu, chair of the National Committee on Literary Arts.

Tomorrow, Feb. 22, Maartext will feature Korean Textures at the Dingman Conference Hall, USC Downtown Campus.

Korean Textures invites students and teachers to experience and appreciate Korean art through literature, film and music.

The event showcases Dr. Jinhyoung Lee, professor of literature from Konkuk University in Seoul, who will lecture on the history and politics of the modern Korean novel, and Jeneth Borlasa, professor at University of the Philippines-Cebu, who will talk about the Philippine experience of Korean films.

The panel discussants on Korean film are Joanalyn Gabales, Joanne Marisse Tan, and Julius Cesar Cudera.
