Marvil: Vice mayor opposes additional TVNS

VICE Mayor Edison Bilog is not keen on the plan of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to increase the common supply base for Transport Network Vehicle Service (TVNS) in the city. In a resolution he filed, the vice mayor is urging the LTFRB through the Department of Transportation (DOTr-CAR) to exclude the City of Baguio on any possible increase of the common supply base for TVNS.

The LTFRB has recently issued Memorandum Circular (MC) 2018-003 regarding the Common Supply Base for TVNS for some key cities in the country and lifted the moratorium on the acceptance of applications for the issuance of a Certificate of Public Conveyance (CPC) to operate TVNS.

Bilog conveyed that the Association of United Taxi Operators-CAR was informed by the DOTr-CAR that the common supply base for TVNS shall likewise be increased in the City of Baguio.

He added that increasing or allowing more TVNS such as “Grab Taxi” and “Grab Car” units and the like to ply around the city will contribute to the worsening traffic congestion and would also greatly affect the means of livelihood of the taxi drivers and operators in the city as well as the other public transport groups.

With these in mind, the Vice Mayor specified that that there really is a need to urge the LTFRB to exclude the city on any possible increase on the said matter considering that the LTFRB’s primary purpose which is to allow more TVNS for the riding public would not be feasible in the congested streets of the city.
