Kin want slain OFW’s belongings returned

THE family of slain overseas Filipino worker Joanna Demafiles want her belongings returned to them in the hope that it would provide them vital information on how their kin spent her last years in Kuwait.

Jojet Demafiles, in an interview, said his sister’s belongings, especially her cellphone, might contain vital information that could shed light on what really happened to her.

“Ang gusto naming mangyari para mapadali (ang pagresolba) ng kaso niya, ‘yung cellphone niya kailangan po naming makuha ‘yun dahil meron po siyang record dun na pwedeng makadagdag sa (mga ebidensya sa) kaso niya (We want her cellphone and other belongings returned, as there might be some information there that could help resolve the case),” Jojet said.

Jojet said their family has sought the help of local and national officials and called on the Kuwaiti government to help in the immediate arrest of Joanna’s employers, a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo Provincial Board passed Tuesday afternoon, February 20, two resolutions of Board Member Jeneda Salcedo-Orendain condemning the senseless killing of Demafiles.

The resolutions also called on all government officials to exert diligent effort to bring justice to Joanna’s death, and requested the Kuwaiti government to gather evidences and conduct speedy trial against Joanna’s killers.

Earlier, the Municipal Council of Sara also passed a resolution condemning the killing of Demafiles. (SunStar Philippines)
