Editorial: Hugpong ng Pagbabago, politics, and one-upmanship

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio has sought the support of the four governors of Davao Province and organized them under Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional political party to coalesce support for the President's programs and in the process hasten the implementation of these.

HNP will be launched today, it was announced.

Wth Duterte-Carpio on the lead, we can look forward to a group that will cut down on the politics as we are witnessing now in the House of Representatives.

There is so much that need to be done in the little time the President who has vowed to set things right is given. Throw into the mix are the politicians who see their positions as positions of power that people should bow down to. Indeed, we cannot expect change to come just like that as these politicians have been molded and have molded their existence in this feudal template where they are the barons and the masses their slaves.

But, we shouldn't give up on getting real public servants who are there to serve and develop their areas to benefit the people, and not their pockets.

After all, we are the ones who put them there. It was our stupidity, lack of discernment, or wrongful act of selling our votes that gave them power.

Let us tell ourselves, our people, and our friends to stop the stupidity.

In the meantime, let's cheer on governors in Davao Occidental, Gov. Claude Bautista, Davao del Norte Gov. Antonio del Rosario, Compostela Valley Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy, and Davao Oriental Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang and constantly remind them that they are there to serve their people and provide the vision on how their provinces will be in the coming generations. Then we all cross our fingers that from this political grouping, public servants will multiply and make politicians extinct. Of course that is just our wish, and dream.

In that wish is a host of curses we would rather keep unsaid, at the moment as we give HNP a chance to shine.
