Bzzzzz: Who told Mike to run? ‘not the Holy Spirit’

FORMER Cebu City mayor Mike Rama said (1) he didn’t say the Holy Spirit talked with him and (2) he might run for vice mayor or congressman, instead of the mayor’s post again.

Which is more interesting of the two statements, made on dyCM radio yesterday? He could change his mind about his plans for 2019, as he just did about running for mayor. So for now, the more interesting is the Holy Spirit’s purported talk with him.

Mike blames his enemy (“Berdugo sa City Hall”) for the “false” story although Bzzzzz’s item in Monday’s issue came from two sources. The same item said Mike said God (with the Holy Spirit not specified) talked to him about running for mayor next elections.

Not true, Mike told program host Jason Monteclar. But it was under the same condition that he in 2011, Mike said, decided to bolt BOPK and ran against Tomas Osmeña. He was in the room and at the same table in his father’s house at Rama compound that he felt the “spirits” were communing with him. So it was “spirits,” which broadcaster Bobby Nalzaro said could be the devil, not the Holy Spirit who told Mike to run.

Open to other posts

The more “gladdening” clarification (to VM Edgar Labella and other Ramanians) from the former mayor is that Mike is open to the option of running for vice mayor to Labella or even for congressman.

That should take the Barug Team Rama situation out of that “between rock and hard place” site. If Mike would agree to another post other than the mayorship, that would increase chances of the city opposition to beat BOPK’s Tomas Osmeña.

Rama himself repeated it twice: the “basic” and “primordial goal” is to remove Tomas from City Hall.

The difference

VM Edgar Labella reportedly said in a radio interview, referencing to Mike’s Holy Spirit talk, a variation of a quote attributed to Thomas Szasz: “If you talk to God, you are praying. If God talks to you, you have schizophrenia.”

Experts say that if one thinks God is talking to him, he might just be addressing his anxieties, the feelings articulated into word from the heavens. “Run Mike.” Yes, Mike explained, And not necessarily for mayor.

He could still try to take down Tomas without a head-on collision.
