Bokawkan road accidents due to road condition

ROAD accidents in Bokawkan are due to road conditions, an official from the traffic management office (TMO) said.

Police Superintendent Oliver Panabang of the TMO said there have been 10 recorded accidents since 2015 at the Bokawkan area alone.

Panabang said all accidents involved trucks traversing downward losing brakes or could not control their vehicles, ramming into Benguet Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Beneco) posts causing blackouts.

The officer said all accidents happened in the daytime involving 8 trucks and the rest a Hi-lux and a motorcycle.

The City Council summoned the police with Department of Public Works and Highways, BENECO and City Engineering Office and the Baguio City Police Office Traffic Management Office to the city council to help them craft measures to lessen the loss of life and property.

Artemio Bacoco, northern sub-area department manager of Beneco said the coop is willing to retire their poles provided telecommunication companies will take out cables also attached to the poles.

The inquiry was called by Councilor Joel Alangsab saying “It is also observed that the road widening projects of the DPWH along major thoroughfares expose these trees and posts to motorists, making the posts and trees susceptible to from either being accidental or intentional bumping or being collaterally damaged by vehicular accidents.”

The city has seen road accidents the past months caused massive blackouts and loss of life when Beneco posts were downed by the collision of vehicles, causing a massive traffic jam.

The council will now act on the appropriate measure to craft.
