Sara Duterte to Alvarez: You messed with the wrong girl

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio lambasted House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for messing “with the wrong girl” after the latter said she is part of the political opposition.

In a series of Instagram posts on Thursday, February 22, Duterte-Carpio castigated Alvarez and even called him an “a**.. hole.”

“Kung a**..hole ka sa Congress, don’t bring that to Davao, leave it in Manila. Somebody should tell the President what you are doing. How dare you call me part of the opposition. Kapal ng mukha mo. You messed with the wrong girl,” read Duterte-Carpio’s post.

The mayor apparently got mad after learning of the House Speaker’s reaction on her forming a regional political group Hugpong ng Pagbabago on Tuesday, February 20.

Alvarez, in an ABS-CBN report, said it just shows how prominent political dynasties are in the Philippines.

"Kahit na mag-ama yan, kahit na minsan hindi tayo nagkakasundo, magkapatid naglalaban sa pulitika, paano natin pigilin yun? Sila mismo naglaban-laban 'di ba? Ito namang sa kaso noong pagtatag ng partido ni Mayor Sara ay talaga namang pupuwede yun, di ba? So, igalang na lang natin talaga," the full quote stated.

Another post hit Alvarez for saying that he can impeach the President.

“Ano sabi mo in a crowd, 'President iba siya, Speaker ako, I can always impeach him!' And you call me opposition? Somebody should really tell the President about the truth,” read the post.

The mayor, who chairs the Hugpong ng Pagbabago Party, issued an official document hours after the posts on Instagram blew up.

The statement explained that the unity forged by her with the four governors of Davao Region has, in fact, the blessing of his father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

It also clarified that the Speaker’s latest media statement that he respects the creation of Hugpong ng Pagbabago or that the unity is a "non-issue" was unfortunately betrayed by his comment on political dynasties.

The mayor, who authored the statement, added, "If the Speaker is attacking our effort to do something significant and timely for Region 11, and reducing it as a product of political dynasties, I suggest he pass the Anti-Political Dynasty Law."

Mindanao politicians who joined Duterte-Carpio's call for regional unity include some, whom Alvarez had issues with before, namely, Davao del Norte Governor Antonio Rafael del Rosario, cousin of Davao del Norte Representative Antonio Floirendo Jr. Both had a falling out with Alvarez, who is the secretary general of the administration party PDP-Laban.

Other governors in the alliance are Claude Bautista of Davao Occidental, Nelson Dayanghirang of Davao Oriental, and Jayvee Tyron Uy of Compostela Valley.

Meanwhile, it was not made clear whether Davao del Sur Douglas Cagas was invited to join the party.

The mayor was interviewed by reporters earlier this afternoon.
