THE Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA) has given recognition to 54 artists in Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday, February 21, to acknowledge their contribution to the city.

Lambago Arts Awards, according to XCCA Director Hobart Savior, is an event to honor the arts and artists of Cagayan de Oro as part of the National Arts Month celebration and the ‘Panaghugpong’.

Panaghugpong, now on its tenth year, is a multi-arts festival that converges the various productions of the performing arts companies of Xavier University as well as art workshops, exhibitions, concerts and cultural education programs.

"It (Lambago Arts Awards) is a recognition award for their work that they have contributed much to the city and that they have also won competitions in regional and national and international," Savior said.

Savior, who is also the director of the Lambago Arts Awards, said the event started in 2016 and is implemented once in every two years.

"I thought of really honoring artists because I think we want to gather artists as a community," Savior added.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno, for his part, expressed his gratitude not only to the organizers of the event for recognizing Kagay-anon artists, but also to the artists themselves for their contribution, adding that their arts has become a part of the heritage "that the Cagayan de Oro is very proud of."

The event featured seven award categories, namely: dance, music, literature, visual arts, film, theater, and cultural and arts institutions.

The awards were presented by City Mayor Oscar Moreno, Xavier University Mission and Ministry Vice President Irene Grace Guitarte, Arts Section Head of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Ferdinand Isleta, and XCCA Director Hobart Savior.
