112 street children get educational aid

THE Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) distributed educational assistance to 90 elementary and high school street children and 22 college scholars at CSWDO gym in Molo last February 21.

The college scholars were given P5,000 each as their allowance for second semester of 2017.

About P2,250 were given to 20 student beneficiaries from Arevalo district, while 15 from La Paz, 14 each from Molo, Mandurriao, and Jaro, and 13 from the city center received the same amount.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III said the initiative is a big help to poor but deserving students who want to finish basic education and even college. He added it is an opportunity for them to become successful someday.

“This program of City Government through CSWDO Taskforce on Street Children is a chance for the less fortunate to pursue their studies despite poverty. The amount will be used for their school allowances and projects. I hope that they will be inspired to strive harder for their future with the support given to them,” said Merlyn Gison, focal person for Child and Youth Welfare of the Iloilo City Council for the Protection of Children.

Parents of recipients were thankful for the educational aid. (PR)
