Teachers’ course on badminton a success

SOME 43 stakeholders from the different parts of Mindanao and two from abroad have participated in the BWF Shuttle Time Philippines Teachers’ Course-Cagayan de Oro last February 10 to 11 at the Xavier University Gymnasium in Cagayan de Oro City.

The teachers’ course was attended by coaches, teachers and sports coordinators from schools as far as Pagadian City, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin, Oroquieta City, and Bukidnon.

It also lured in participants from the various towns of Misamis Oriental such as from Gingoog City, Tagoloan, Balingasag and Alubijid as well as from downtown Cagayan de Oro.

The course also welcomed delegates from Russia in the person of Volkov Andrey and Arlyn Padilla, PhD, an overseas Filipino worker who teaches at Berhan University in Ethiopia.

No less than Ian Gil Piencenaves, a former Philippine National Badminton Team and Sea Games and Asean Games past master, came to conduct the course.

Piencenaves is also the current regional development officer of the Southeast Asia Region for Badminton Asia.

The course is a badminton program designed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and implemented by the Badminton Asia (BA) for teachers and coaches.

It was spearheaded by XU Athletic Office under the tutelage of XU Athletic director Vincent Padilla, Ph.D., Badminton Collegiate head coach Efren Pollentes and the XU Crusaders College Badminton Team.

“We are honored that we have strong feedbacks from participants including those from outside the country,” said Padilla.

The course has the support of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) – Philippine Sports Institute (PSI) Regional Program Office.

All of the participants received an international certification course program and this is the first of its kind in Northern Mindanao.

“As per feedback from the participants, they learned many technical details which they may have overlooked or disregarded in their delivery of the same,” said Pollentes.
