THE father of an alleged drug personality died when he tried to shoot a police officer in Sitio Abellana, Barrio Luz yesterday morning.
Chief Insp. Clark Arriola, chief of the Mabolo police, said that Benjamin Dela Rosa, 59, was shot dead by responding personnel when he tried to stop the drug enforcement unit of the Mabolo police from bringing his son, Wardy Dela Rosa, 30, to the police station.
“Nikalit og abot ang amahan sa atong subject unya misuway og pusil sa atong personnel nga nakatalikod. Pero wala mibuto ang iyang bala,” Arriola said.
Wardy was arrested during an anti-illegal drugs operation and was about to be brought to the barangay hall before he will be transported to the police station.
When Benjamin pulled the trigger, some of the residents who witnessed the incident shouted in alarm, which allowed the police officer to get out of the line of fire, Arriola said.
It prompted the other policemen to fire at Benjamin. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead.
Arriola said that the operation was legitimate.
“Investigators found a dud bullet from a caliber.45 coming from Benjamin’s firearm,” Arriola said.
During the commotion, Wardy managed to escape.
Investigators recovered a caliber.38 revolver with four live bullets and two duds and a caliber.45 pistol with six bullets from Benjamin, while sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia were seized from Wardy.
In a separate incident, a man was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding men on D. Jakosalem St., Ramos last Thursday evening. The victim was identified as Enrique Maquilang, 52. (JOB)
