THE Davao Region collected a total of five gold medals, six silvers and 10 bronze medals to place 10th in overall in the just-concluded State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (Scuaa) National Games 2018 held in Sibalom, Antique.

University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) sports director and Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (Pasuc) Davao Region Dr. Jose Alther Rivera bared this in a Facebook conversation with SunStar Davao Monday, February 26.

The region finished 11th last year.

"So far maayo man, nagkulang lang jud sa preparation since mag lisud mi ug manage sa schedule sa mga bata kay pressure sila sa academics," he said.

Swimmer Juan Antonio Mendoza of the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao led the medal haul with two gold medals, two silvers and one bronze.

Usep's Kleinn Bacalso Mataverde also won a gold by defending his men's arnis title while Roxette Ortiz and Jennilyn Morcillo won one gold each in women's karatedo and women's arnis events, respectively.
