Tesda to hold educaction, job bridging today

WITH the array of skills scholarship granted by the government that are up for grabs, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) will hold a two-day National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) Enrolment and job bridging today, February 27 and 28 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

Mafel Gamale, Tesda Davao information officer, said the activity is a simultaneous event across the country designed to open scholarship slots down to the grassroots level and for those who wish to acquire additional skills either for employment purposes or should they intend to venture into business.

She said the government has given Tesda Davao a P161.9 million budget for the scholarship program alone across the region for 2018.

She, however, said that they could not provide the exact data on the number of scholars to be accommodated as their scholarship vouchers have different amounts and everyone is welcome.

Their target for this year is to double their previous number of skills graduates. Last year, Tesda Davao region recorded more than 100,000 graduates in different technical vocational schools in the region.

"Hopefully we will double kay sa karon man gud, during the Presidency of President Duterte, grabe ang nag-abot nga scholarship funds (Scholarship funds doubled during the Presidency of President Duterte)," she said.

She added, "Sabi ng Presidente, we will no longer wait for those who would like to become scholars but Tesda will go to them. So, kami na ang muadto regardless of their affiliations (So we are the ones going to them)."

In Compostela Valley, they will hold the activity in different Municipal gyms. A similar one will be held at the Panabo City gym in Panabo City, Davao del Norte; Gaisano Mall in Digos City, Davao del Sur; and Baywalk Park in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Aside from the enrollment they will also conduct job bridging or a job fair where it will be attended by local and overseas employers.

She said that the activity will help techvoc graduates to get jobs that suit their skills.
