Tesda puts up booth at airport for OFWs

THE regional office of Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda-Davao Region) has put up a booth at the Davao International Airport (DIA) to immediately cater overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) here who were repatriated from Kuwait.

Speaking during Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Davao, Mafel Gamale, Tesda Davao information officer, said last Saturday they started setting up a desk to welcome OFWs repatriated from Kuwait and assist them.

Although they have yet to acquire from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) the list of affected OFWs from Davao region, they already conducted quick intervention through the assistance booth.

However, she added that as of Monday morning, they have not recorded OFWs who signified interest to avail their scholarship program. But she said they will coordinate with Owwa to contact these displaced OFWs to encourage them to enroll in any of the courses offered.

"The moment they arrived in Davao, amoa na gyud dayon silang gimeet para ma-assit sila and kung gusto nila (We meet with them as soon as possible to provide them assistance if they want us to)," she said.

They will also give them option whether they want to avail it themselves or their dependents. They have no limit in terms of numbers as she underscored that they will cater to interested individuals.

Gamale added that the government has allocated a budget for this in line with the directive of the President to prioritize the returning OFWs who lost their livelihood.
