City 95% ready for Araw ng Dabaw

THE city Government of Davao is 95 percent ready for the 81st Araw ng Dabaw, an official said.

Davao City Tourism Operations Office office-in-charge Generose Tecson said that the coordination meeting on security preparations will have yet to be set.

"We expect that mapantayan natin or masobrahan ang visitors last year which was numbered up to 170,000 by the end of March," she said.

Tecson added that Filipino-Americans already inquired about the activities of the Araw.

She said that they did not campaign outside the city for visitors.

"We only relied on social media, but most of the hype was for Davao's summer activities and Kadayawan," she said.

"Stand Tall United and Resilient" will be this year’s theme for the event.

Koro sa Araw ng Dabaw, Pasko, Araw ng Dabaw Street Party or Tugtugan, Battle of the Bands and Lamdag Parada are the additional events this year as these were postponed last December.

She said that participants of Lamdag Parada have increased from nine participants in the elementary division to 15 during the recent counting. The open category also increased from 10 to 11.

She said that more or less P14 million will be the budget for this year's event. This already includes budget for Pasko Fiesta-postponed events.
