Councilor pushes for increase in GSIS pension

BACOLOD City Councilor Renecito Novero, chairperson of committee on education, planned to seek assistance from the House of Representatives and the Senate to increase the monthly pension of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) pensioners.

Novero said Monday, February 26, he has received complaints from GSIS pensioners that they are not receiving upward adjustments in their pensions like the Social Security System (SSS) pensioners.

“It’s unfair to them because the prices of basic commodities continue to increase every year and their monthly pension cannot sustain their daily needs,” he said.

Novero said he will propose a resolution addressed to the House of Representatives and the Senate, asking them to look into the possibility of enacting the law that will increase the pension of the government employee retirees.

He said the SSS pensioners are now enjoying the increase in their pensions and it is also the time for the GSIS pensioners to have an increase.

Novero added that he is hopeful that the lawmakers and senators will act on this concern to help the GSIS pensioners.
