Marwan’s widow, 4 others to remain in Lanao Norte jail

A POLICE official said they are confident the arrested widow of slain terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir, aka Marwan, and four others are safely locked in Lanao Norte and said the five suspects will remain in Tubod town, Lanao del Norte until government decides otherwise.

"We will impose rigorous security measures at the detention facility of the arrested widow of terrorist leaders and her family members in Lanao del Norte,” said an official of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Northern Mindanao.

Juromee Dongon, widow of slain terrorist leaders Zulkifli Bin Hir, known as Marwan, and Khadaffy Janjalani; her father Romeo, sisters Norein Santos and Lorelie Atta and the latter's husband Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4) Andy Atta were committed to a jail facility in Tubod town of said province after their inquest proceedings last Monday.

The suspects were charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives after a cache of guns and bomb-making components were seized during a separate raids and search operations in Tubod and Baroy towns, over the weekend.

Superintendent Melgar Devaras, commanding officer of CIDG-Cagayan de Oro City, said the suspects will not be airlifted to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City but will be detained in Lanao del Norte since their case is not rebellion.

However, he said security plan is in place considering that the suspects are high risk detainees.

"May commitment order na sila sa Tubod BJMP. Secured naman at nakaalalay ang army sa security coverage," Devaras said.

Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO), said there was already a coordination among the Lanao del Norte police office, special units, special action force and the military troops with regards to security protocols.

Gonda said the state forces are on top of every situation to thwart possible rescue attempts.

"Apil nana sa assumption kanang rescue attempt kay tanan posible mahitabo. Pero naa nay coordination nato ana sa security," Gonda said.

Gonda said the suspects are associated with terror groups but he could not further elaborate their participation and support to terror activities.

He said apart from Juromee, who was also in a relationship with two terrorist leaders before Marwan, her sister Lorelie was also the wife of one of the slain Abu Sayyaf leaders Abu Solaiman before she got married to SPO4 Atta.

"Naa silay links and association sa terror groups pero wala na gi-specify sa intel groups," Gonda said.

Meanwhile, the Northern Mindanao police is strengthening their ties with the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) for the internal security operation and anti-terrorism campaign.

Gonda said this includes monitoring of the supposed recruitment efforts made by the terror groups to gain more force and influence in Mindanao.

"Naay information atong nadawat nga recruitment pero walay actual gyud," Gonda said.
