Dash for Congress

AS if!

Stacey Dash, the actress turned conservative political commentator, has filed paperwork to run for a congressional seat in Southern California.

Documents submitted Monday to the Federal Election Commission show the “Clueless” star intends to run as a Republican in California’s 44th District, a seat held by Democrat Nanette Barragan.

Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by a wide margin in the Los Angeles-area district that contains the areas of Compton, Watts, San Pedro and North Long Beach.

A representative for the 51-year-old Dash didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Dash hinted on social media this month that she was considering a run, even posting a “Dash to DC” logo.

“A number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office. I wanted to see what my online community thinks of this idea as I mull the possibilities. Thoughts?” she tweeted last Feb. 9.

“Things are taking shape,” she tweeted two weeks later.

Dash co-starred in the 1995 coming-of-age comedy film “Clueless.” She worked as an on-air contributor at Fox News until 2016.

“Let’s all support women and women of color unless they disagree with us! Then let’s call them race and gender sellouts,” Filipino-American actor Rob Schneider reacted to Dash’s candidacy.

Dash has always had a different take on issues compared to the rest of the African-Americans in Hollywood and even the women.

She found it “ludicrous” that black actors in Hollywood protested the #OscarSoWhite controversy in 2016. In fact, she said that if black people really want equality and integration, they should get rid of BET (Black Entertainment Television), the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Image Awards and Black History Month because they encourage exclusivity.

And when female celebrities spoke out against gender pay gap in Hollywood, Dash said women just need to be better negotiators. (AP with JGA)
