De Leon: 3 major reasons why blogs are thriving

MILLENNIALS are often identified as the first digital natives or the "connected generation." The very first that has grown up on their devices and the Internet. This, along with several factors, has produced an age-group that is like no other before it.

The communicative field of content production or 'blogging' is strongly thriving because of the very principles millennials hold near and dear.

Heaps of research have been done to highlight the major characteristics of this generation and a few things are for certain:

1. Millennials' concept of work and career are gradually shying away from the traditional long-term employment with a single organization – climbing the ladder with retirement benefits after 35 years.

Instead, Gen Y-ers are attracted to the 'alternative work style' and fascinated with the idea of entrepreneurship and perhaps multiple streams of income from several side "hustles.” Thus, many have taken the freelancer route in more than one niche simultaneously.

2. Moreso, millennials value their 'friends' and online social communities, reaching out for opinions and recommendations, particularly as consumers. Who does not enjoy the online activities that connects with others all over the globe?

3. Millennials have a strong sense of mistrust of the traditional and mainstream media. Relying exclusively on giant networks could make us fallen preys to the demands of a celebrity-obsessed and entertainment-driven culture that don't always give what is news worthy.

Life happens. Things change. We are now living in unconventional times and no one understands this more than millennials.

With the entire world literally at their fingertips, they see possibilities that their predecessors have not. They are willing to pursue several opportunities at a time and blogging is one that’s increasingly becoming popular with them.
