MAYOR Sara Duterte-Carpio said the sisterhood agreement between Davao City and Marawi would result in a wider coverage of assistance from the city to the Islamic city.
"Pag naay sisterhood agreement, a local government unit can give assistance in terms of kwarta, dili lang during disasters. Even mga gamit nato diri like police mobiles, we can give them," the mayor said.
She said Davao City can also provide assistance in terms of planning, like sharing best practices with the local government unit of Marawi.
She said the agreement provided legal basis for the city to allocate a particular budget to be used to help its sister city.
Earlier, the Davao City Council approved an ordinance that granted Duterte-Carpio power to enter into a sisterhood agreement with Marawi.
According to the resolution passed by Davao City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, the Sisterhood City Agreement would promote favorable relations, partnerships, and cooperation between the two cities.
The agreement stated that the partnership, exchange and development of both cities will focus on the fields of tourism, trade and investment and other fields that are beneficial for both parties.
After the signing, the partnership will be enforced for a period of five years and would automatically be extended for five more years.
Early February, Davao City also signed a Sister City Agreement with Jinjiang, a city in Fujian, China; and Kaua'i in Hawaii, USA. (PR)
