'Basyang' crop losses hit P9.2 million

CROP losses due to heavy rains brought by Typhoon Basyang in Negros Occidental reached P9.186 million.

In the report released by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) on February 27, losses from February 13 to 21 covered 964.94 hectares of farmlands.

Affected were 1,049 farmers from 47 barangays of seven local government units in the province.

The highest value of damage was in the rice sector with P8.785 million, while the damage in high-value commercial crops was pegged at P401,250, the report showed.

The report added that Bago City incurred the highest crop losses with P4.254 million, affecting 338 farmers and 411 hectares of its 19 barangays.

It is followed by San Carlos City with P1.890 million worth of crop losses; La Carlota City, P859,432; Moises Padilla, P771,935; and Valladolid, P768,852.
