SK officials told to train before assuming office

ALL Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to be elected this May will have to go through training after the election, an official from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Misamis Oriental said.

DILG Provincial Director Edward Bhagwani said SK officials will not be allowed to assume office on July 1 if they were not able to undergo training from May 16 to 23.

"Dili pareho sa una nga paghuman eleksyon mag-iya na dayon sa pag-conduct sa training sa ilaha ug karon lahi na kay paghuman sa eleksyon gihatagan sila og timeline gikan sa May 16 ngadto May 23 (Its different from before that after the election, they will conduct their own training. Now, they are given a timeline, from May 16 to 23)," Bhagwani said.

According to the DILG provincial director, the training will be done simultaneously, and as such, the DILG has started tapping on to the different universities and colleges in Misamis Oriental where the SK officials will have to enroll for the training.

He also emphasized that it is important that the elected SK officials will be trained before they can even start on July 1 as they have observed several who assumed office without knowing what to do.

"Maraming functions na ginagawa nila na hindi pa nila alam kung paano gagawin (There are functions that they have to do but they don't know how). So the department is seeing to it na (that) by the time uupo na sila, alam na nila kung anong gagawin nila (they assume office, they will know the things they needed to do)," Bhagwani said.

Aside from that, he added, the SK officials will also have to come up with plans which are of importance for the youth sector.

"Hindi lang yung basta na lang sila gagamit ng pera ng gobyerno, buwis natin yun, tapos para lang pangbili ng basketball, basketball court, ganyan, hindi. Dapat pag isipan yun, they need to undergo the training so that alam nila mag planning (They should not use the money from the government, which came from our taxes, just for purchasing basketballs, basketball court, and among others. They should know how to plan)," Bhagwani said.

Bhagwani said after the training, the SK officials will be given certification which will indicate that they have finished their training and are prepared to start their services.
