La Castellana breaks ground for P7.4-M access road projects

THE Municipal Government of La Castellana in Negros Occidental will start the development works of two road projects totaling to P7.4 million positioned to improve accessibility in the southern locality.

Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, who led the groundbreaking ceremony at Barangay Cabacungan Wednesday, said the first project worth P1.4 million is funded through the Assistance to Disadvantaged Municipalities (ADM) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Nicor-Mangilimutan said it is an opening of about one-kilometer road from Barangay Cabacungan proper to Sitio Tikoy-Tikoy. The residents there are only passing through rice levee.

“This would allow vehicles to enter the sitio and provide better accessibility to about 200 households especially during emergency cases,” she added.

After the groundbreaking, works for the repair of the 600-meter road at the said village will also start.

The other project worth P6.4 million classified as “provincial road” is funded by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental.

Nicor-Mangilimutan said the road, once finished, will boost accessibility between Negros Oriental and Moises Padilla and Isabela towns in Negros Occidental passing through La Castellana.

She said it will mainly benefit students, farmers and passenger-vehicles from Negros Oriental as well as those delivering agricultural products to Bacolod City and other parts of the province.

“It will also connect people to various tourism spots in La Castellana like Caduhada Spring Resort, Baji-Baji Waterfalls, and a viewing point for the majestic Mt. Kanlaon,” Nicor-Mangilimutan added.

The two access road projects with target completion of at least 60 days are on top of the P200 million worth of road networks up for bidding and construction this year.

The mayor had earlier said these projects are funded through various agencies like the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Department of Agriculture, and Sugar Regulatory Administration, among others.
