Fire prevention activities set

SOME 400 Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel participated in the Fire Prevention Month Kick-Off Ceremony at BFP-Western Visayas grounds in Iloilo City March 1.

There will be a five-minute blowing of horns of all firefighting apparatus on March 2.

The One Team Color Run for regional, provincial and city offices and fire stations is set on March 4.

On March 5 to 9, there will be a nationwide Berong Bombero sa Paaralan Fire Safety Awareness Campaign in all elementary schools and the simultaneous Fire Prevention Games and Contests like drawing, essay writing, photo, poster-making for elementary and high school students.

The training course to volunteer fire brigades and Barangay Disaster Control Brigade of Fire Stations and Regional Offices is scheduled on March 12.

On March 13 to 15, there will be a three-day open house to school children on all BFP fire stations where basic things to be observed during fire will be discussed to them.

The BFP Uphill Run is set on March 16.

The national judging for Fire Prevention Games and Contests will be on March 17.

Fire Stations will have simple meal Salo-Salo Laban sa Sunog on March 19.

The Culminating Ceremony will be held at all BFP Stations on March 25.

This year’s theme is “Ligtas na Pilipinas ang ating Hangad, Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sarili Ipatupad.”

Under Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A, March as Fire Prevention Month is observed to raise the level of awareness of the public of the ways to prevent fires and save lives and properties.

Office of Civil Defense-Western Visayas Director Jose Roberto Nuñez highlighted the significance of empowering the general public in emergency response and preparedness in order to save lives and minimize damage.

"The BFP has been a long-term partner in creating resilient community. Each one of us must do our part in every response that we undertake. We will always count on your dedicated service as our continuing partner in disaster risk reduction and civil defense program,” Nuñez said.

“Let’s all build a safe environment for a sustainable development. Let’s reflect the heroism that is within us and be the light to your respective community members,” he added. (PR)
