‘Pacman slugfest’ on Sunday in Macasandig

AROUND 10 Cagayan de Oro boxers will do battle in semifinal round of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup Mindanao Leg here on Sunday at the Macasandig covered courts.

Peter Payla will fight in the 46 kilograms (kgs), while Mark Lester Durens and John Earl Palovino will try their luck in 48 and 50 kgs, respectively.

Kim Bryan Cabrillos, Dave Bryan Caspe and Ignacio Macas will duel it out with the best in 52 kgs.

John Paumayan will be fighting in 60 kgs.

Team Cagayan de Oro (CDO) will also have entries for the women’s category.

Merry Ann Laug-Laug will trade blows in the women’s 46 kgs, while Jessa Lyca Daguhoy and Elaide Pamisa will take the challenge in 48 and 47 kgs, in that order.

“We wish them luck para makasulod sila sa final,” said city sports chief Jaymar Rivera.

The six young girls competing will be an added attraction in the Pacman slugfest.

Jessa Lyca Caranagan of host CDO faces Ralph Chein Sevilleno of Malungon, Saranggani Province in the Jr. Girls light flyweight (48 kg) division. While Darlene Literal, also of Malungon, collides with Sherillyn Gil Napoles of General Santos City in the bantamweight (54 kg) category.

CDO’s Elaide Pamisa will fight Gensan’s Jeane Raciel Boloy in the light flyweight (45-48 kg) division.

CDO also has six semifinalists in the Jr. Boys and Youth Boys divisions.

Peter John Payla will face Davao’s Emmanuel Canubas in the Jr. Boys pinweight (44-46 kg) category while John Erl Palivino takes on Sen. Manny Pacquiao’s cousin Jester Dapidran of Digos City in the Jr. Boys flyweight (50 kg).

Kim Bryan Cabrillos will show wares against Polomolok’s April Boy Lampitao in the Jr. Boys light bantamweight (52 kg) while Dave Bryan Caspe will clash with Gensan’s Kurt Leam Gulle in the Jr. Boys bantamweight (54 kg).

John Ignatius Macas squares off Sarangani’s Kenneth Egano in the Youth Boys flyweight (52 kg) while John Paul Panuayan fights Gensan’s John Benedic Cadavido in the Youth Boys lightweight (60 kg).

Host City Mayor Oscar Moreno will give the welcome address while an inspirational message will be given by 1996 Atlanta Olympics silver medalist Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco.
