ROTARY District 3860 Area 2 Clubs held a “One Rotary, One Love for Mothers and Children” activity last February 21, 2018 in cooperation with the Davao City Health Office, Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society–Southern Mindanao Chapter (POGS-SMC) and the Philippine Pediatric Society – Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter (PPS-DSMC) as part of Rotary Week activities.

The professional medical societies conducted lectures on Disaster Preparedness for Pregnant Mothers, Unang Yakap, Family Planning and Immunization. POGS-SMC doctors also performed ultrasound for high risk pregnant women.

The event was conducted at four Davao City health centers namely Maa Health Center supported by Rotary Club (RC) WalingWaling Davao, RC PagAsa, RC Sta Ana, RC North Davao and RC South Davao under Assistant Governor (AG) Maribel Vilela. AG Arthur Uy led RC Matina, RC Davao and RC Davao 2000 at the SIR Matina Health Center.

The Rotary Clubs of Central, Downtown, West and East Davao was coordinated by Council of Presidents Chair Angelita Maranan Ang took care of Agdao Health Center while the Rotary Clubs of Toril, Calinan, Digos and South Digos under AG Alejandra Cabardo manned the Toril Health Center. The Rotary Clubs provided logistical support, snacks and care packages for the participants.

Dr Josephine Villafuerte threw her full support behind the Mother and Child Activity together with Dr Julinda Acosta, Dr Marjorie Culas, Dr. Carmela Cunanan, Dr. Evelyn Banio and Dr. Marge Rubio who attended several Rotary coordination meetings with POGS-SMC represented by its Past President Dr Gina Alvarez and Dr Margarita Isabel Amoroso.

PPS-DSMC was represented by Ruchie Baunding-Kintanar during meetings with Rotary Week chair Andy Ugdoracion and Rotary District 3860 led by Governor Art Tan.

POGS-SMC president Dr. Sonia Valles-Santos gave a lecture on Disaster Preparedness for Pregnant Women at the Matina Health Center while Dr Darleen Estuart and Dr Geoffrey Que conducted small group discussions with pregnant women and mothers at the Maa Barangay Hall.

The POGS-SMC members who participated by giving lectures and doing ultrasound for pregnant women included doctors Karen Francisco, Ophelia Saavedra, Danna Reyes, Chona Dy, Susan Basilio, Georgia Espino, Soraya Hadjiril, Marian Mabunga, Charmaine Gomez, Janice Boquiren, Chanille Herrera, and Reena Abellera, and OB/Gyn resident Dr. Charmaine Martinez.

Dr Maria Theresa Banes of PPS-DSMC designated Dr Mirland Redulla to coordinate the participation of paediatricians Dr Caressa Malintad, Dr Heather de Vera, Dr Keith Acuna, Dr Coe de la Sena and Dr Femie Dato.

RCWWD Past President Mae Dolendo, also a pediatrician, organized the activity as Rotary District 3860 Chair for Disease Prevention and Treatment. It is a cooperative effort streamlining and maximizing strengths between professional medical societies and Rotary, a civic organization to serve the community particularly mothers and children.
