Panabo councilor charged

CHARGES were filed before the Prosecutor’s Office in Davao del Norte last week against the barangay councilor who was nabbed for illegal drugs in a subdivision.

Facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, is John Terrel Nardo, 36, a barangay councilor in New Visayas, Panabo City.

Records obtained from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Davao region showed that the suspect was nabbed in a subdivision at Purok Pomelo, New Visayas at 10:30 p.m.

According to PDEA-Davao director Antonio Rivera, Nardo was arrested following a search warrant issued by the court.

The suspect is in the top 10 regional and provincial target lists in Davao. He is also included in the list of personalities involved in illegal drug trade earlier released by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Recovered from the house of the suspects were six sachets of the methamphetamine hydrochloride, known as shabu weighing about 10 grams, worth P120,000 and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Nardo is currently detained at the PDEA-Davao jail facility, while the seized suspected illegal drugs were submitted to laboratory service for qualitative and quantitative examination.

According to the law, if Nardo is found guilty, a maximum penalty of the unlawful act shall be imposed, in addition to absolute perpetual disqualification from any public office.
