Woman shot dead after visiting an inmate in Lapu jail

A FEMALE visitor of the Lapu-Lapu City Jail was shot dead by riding-in-tandem assailants shortly after she got out from the jail located in Barangay Mactan last Friday afternoon.

Victim Lowella Dellera, 44, was reportedly followed by the gunmen, who were riding a motorcycle before the attack at 3 p.m.

Chief Insp. Wayne Magbanua, chief of Lapu-Lapu Police Station 2, said that Dellera had just visited an inmate, who has been jailed for illegal drugs, when the attack happened.

She was hit in the head. The gunmen escaped.

Magbanua said that the victim was brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital, but she died before reaching there.

Personnel of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section recovered two empty shells and a slug of .45 pistol.

Magbanua said Dellera, a resident in Sitio Soong in Mactan, was not in the police station’s drug watchlist.

“Gisubay pa na unsay motibo sa pagpamusil (We are still investigating the motive of the killing),” he added.

Drug surrenderer

A day before the attack on Dellera, a 32-year-old drug surrenderer was also killed in Lapu-Lapu.

Drug surrenderer Garneth Hiyaswas also shot and killed by an unknown gunmn after he bought fish in the market in Sitio Datag, Barangay Maribago at 7 a.m.

Hiyas, a resident of Sitio Abono in Barangay Pajac, was about to start his motorcycle to leave from the area when the gunman appeared behind him and shot him once in the head.

The suspect immediately rode a motorcycle, which was driven by his cohort.

Hiyas was brought to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital, but was declared dead.

Authorities were conducting follow-up operations to identify the culprits. (FMG)
