Comelec warns vs early campaign

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Davao Region warned candidates for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to refrain from campaigning or else face disqualification.

Comelec-Davao election assistant Maysah Casar underlined that initial/early campaigning is an election violation that could lead to the disqualification of the candidates. She said it is best to follow the rules.

May 2018 polls is already fast-approaching, which Casar said other candidates might have been prepared for a long time ago because this election has already been postponed.

"For the barangay and SK candidates and to their supporters, may we remind everyone na di mag early campaigning. Our campaign period will start after filing of the candidacy so di sa mag campaign ron," Casar said.

Casar said posting huge posters and tarpaulins in every barangay, or encouraging groups of people can be considered as untimely campaigning even if the intention of the person to run is not stipulated in their posters.

In Comelec Resolution 10246, the poll body scheduled the election period from April 14 to May 21. Those interested in running for posts in barangay and SK election may file certificates of candidacy from April 14 to 20.

This will be followed by a nine-day campaign period from May 4 to May 12.
