Construction worker shot dead

A SUSPECTED thief was shot to death by a Civilian Volunteer Officer (CVO) at Barangay Cabahug in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental early Saturday.

Killed was construction worker Arnel Arroyo, 35, of Barangay Zone-1.

Investigation showed that Joan Banhao, 29, of Barangay Cabahug, was on duty at the Community Police Assistance Center (Compac) around 3:50 a.m. when he caught Arroyo allegedly stealing a car battery.

Banhao approached him but Arroyo reportedly drew his .38 caliber revolver which was tucked on his waist. Both grappled for the gun.

Arroyo was hit in his face and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Banhao surrendered to the police.

Recovered from the scene were .38 caliber revolver with two fired cartridges and live ammunition, the stolen car battery, a motorcycle, and a 13.5-inch kitchen knife.
