Baguio designates fish scaling stations

FISH scaling and entrails cleaning would still be prohibited at the Baguio City public market until the designated vacant stalls are ready and properly designed to prevent solid wastes from clogging the drain.

This was known after an area inspection by representatives of the City Building and Architects Office (CBAO), City Engineering Office, City Environment and Parks Management Office, City Health Office, and City market Superintendent Fernando Ragma, Jr.

The inspection team emphasized a strainer will have to be installed for the purpose, and waste will be disposed of properly.

The cleaning stalls will be located at the fish section, carinderia and two other areas.

Market goers requested for the scaling and cleaning services, following a meeting with the Alay Sa Kalinisan, market officials and concerned offices, where inspection showed scales and entrails cause the clogging of drainage in the market.

This was the subject of a meeting early last month with Ragma, Jr., with representatives from concerned offices; City Veterinarians’ Office, Baguio city Police Office, General Services Office and Public Order and Safety Division.

It was agreed the drainage would be used only for rain water outlet and washing without solid wastes, and that the market should be cleaned before total flushing. This would ensure that no solid waste goes down the drain.

Included in the meeting was the agreement that the market should be for selling only, and not for the manufacture or processing of food products.

The wet market dialogue is the first of scheduled meetings for all public market sections. (PR)
