The Safari spectacle

NATURE at its best: a showcase of varied animals and bird species; flora in bloom; pollution-free environs.

Set in a sprawling 179 hectares in the 400-hectare property in the town of Carmen, Cebu, the Cebu Safari & Adventure Park will soon be a world-renowned zoological and ecotourism wealth—a legacy Michel Lhuillier will give Cebu and the entire Philippines, then Asia, and the world. Just wait and see. It will be a long-term project but it will happen! The huge investment will be commensurate to its timeless contribution to enhance science, art and economy. Carmen, Cebu will land a spot in the tourism map and the lifestyle and livelihood of the people will accelerate.

What makes it a competitive natural wonder is its vast collection of imported animals and birds, expansive greens, lofty trees, accessible location and well-planned maintenance and safety nets. Its pavilions will serve affordable cuisines from Western to Asian dishes. And many more to add.

I was part of the media trip to the Safari ably organized by colleague Honey and son Edward Loop. What struck me were the well-orchestrated transportation facilities; polite and knowledgeable staff—especially the tourist guides—and the food service. Oh, the senior citizens had special care. The lavatories and surroundings were clean. The passion of Michel was immersed on both Honey and Edward who talked about the Safari from their hearts.

The selected photos on this page speak more than words could utter. Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Yes, June can be had by the poorest comer!” The Safari will soon be open at affordable budget and the academe must not miss it! My doctoral students are set to visit it in May 2018. By then, more thrilling sights will delight tourists.
