DAVAO City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang announced Monday, March 5, his resignation as vice chairman for membership committee in Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
He said he opted to just be an ordinary member, citing loyalty to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as his reason.
Speaking during Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex Building, SM City Ecoland, Davao City, Dayanghirang said he sent his communication letter Monday, March 5, to President Rodrigo Duterte to convey his intention to resign from his position as the vice chairman.
"I am tendering my resignation as vice chairman of membership committee for PDP-Laban Mindanao, reason I cannot be effectively working now with this present situation that my mayor, my loyalty to Inday is there and I am very active with the Tapang at Malasakit," he said.
"I will just remain as ordinary PDP-Laban because of my loyalty and belief to the principle of the party which is based on issues not on personalities," he said.
Duterte-Carpio has organized a regional political party called Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), wherein she sought the support of the four governors of Davao province to coalesce support for the President's programs and in the process hasten the implementation of these.
Dayanghirang, meanwhile, thanked the PDP-Laban president Senator Aquilino Pimentel III and Secretary General Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for their confidence in appointing him as vice chair.
"The President deserves to be supported by both sectors of the society and even with the present situation I will not be effective anymore as vice chairman of membership committee besides the fact that we have this regional party of my Mayor, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte," he said.
He said he already signed his membership with the Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
Should he run for a position, he said he will bring the two parties since the two has different jurisdiction: PDP-Laban is a national party, while Hugpong ng Pagbabago is a regional party.
