Farm commodity prices down in CAR

FARM commodities in the Cordillera region went down while prices of livestock and poultry increase according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Leafy vegetables in the region registered a downward trend for the fourth quarter of 2017 compared the same period of 2016.

Farm gate prices of brocolli (P57.57 to P37.46 per kilogram), cabbage (P26.31 to P14.66), cauliflower (P47.35 to P38.12), celery (P28.42 to P15.72), lettuce (P37.83 to P36.23), chinese pechay (P16.37 to P12.90) and native pechay (P32.38 to P27.33) have gone down last year.

The survey was designed to gather data on farm gate or producer's prices received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for sale of their produce, at the first point of sale, excluding transportation on delivery cost.

PSA said availability of marketing information on agriculture is essential not only in the formulation of economic programs and policies of the government, but also in the production planning and decision-making of farmers and producers to optimize their profit.

Condiments such as ginger, onion leeks, and bell pepper dropped sharply. The price of native ginger went down to P29.83 in 2017 from P50.54 in 2016.

Onion leeks dipped from P41.82 to P28.48 while bell pepper decreased from P90.33 to P52.49.

Moreover, fruit vegetables of ampalaya went down from P33.62 to P23. 57 per kilogram, chayote dropped from P16.45 to 5.95, eggplant from P36.22 to P21.53, and tomato from P32.72 to P25.69 while the price of squash increased at P0.40 per kilogram.

For the average farm gate price, live weight livestock and poultry consistently increased.

Cattle prices went up from P114.81 to P117.04, carabao from P102.78 to P106.23, hogs from 103.80 to P118.03, goat from P103.42 to P104.75, native chicken from P135.11 to P137.55 and duck from P129.01 to P135.95 per kilogram.
