Gov. Cup Volleyball to resume this weekend

THE Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament resumes this weekend after a two-weekend hiatus for the sake of athletes who played in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) in Bohol.

Nine games in the North Division will be played in various playing venues in Cebu this Saturday and Sunday.

Balamban will take on Sogod; Catmon will face Danao City; and Asturias will face Carmen in the Carmen Municipal Gym this Saturday.

In Bantayan Island, it will be Tuburan against Medellin and Bogo City versus home team Sta. Fe on Saturday in the Santa Fe Municipal Gym. It will be followed by the games between Bogo City and Medellin, and Tuburan and Tabogon on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Cordova and Mandaue City will clash, while Consolacion and Liloan will collide in the Consolacion Municipal Gym on Sunday.

The 1st Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament, a competition for female volleyball players 18 and younger, had its opening ceremony last Feb. 18 followed by three games in the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex.

The organizers freed up the schedules for two weekends as most of the players competed in Cviraa last Feb. 24 to March 2.

The volleyball tournament will shell out P300,000 cash for the champion, P200,000 for second place, and P100,000 for third place.

Twenty-nine teams backed by the local governments are vying for the title. The 29 teams are divided into North and South divisions with three brackets per division. (RSC)
