Veteran actor Bernardo Bernardo passes away

VETERAN actor Bernardo Bernardo passed away Thursday morning at the age of 73, his niece Susan Vecina Santos announced on Facebook.

"Our tito Bernardo Bernardo passed away this morning, thank you for all your prayers," Santos posted on Facebook.

Bernardo’s remains now lie at St. Peter Chapels in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City, Santos said, adding that public viewing will start at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 8.

Earlier reports revealed that Bernardo had a tumor in the pancreas.

Bernardo finished Bachelor of Literature in Journalism degree from the University of Santo Tomas.

Bernardo, known for his role as Steve Carpio in the sitcom “Home Along Da Riles,” first started acting in theater before venturing into film.

He won the Gawad Urian Best Supporting Actor award in 1981 for his performance in the classic movie “Manila By Night.”

Bernardo was among the cast of “Ang Larawan,” which won Best Picture in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival. (DDA/SunStar Philippines)
